The library raised money for the new building in the late 1990s by selling memorial tiles. These tiles have had an interesting life ever since. Years ago, the tiles were removed from their original location under the canopy because they are slippery when wet. The memorial tiles’ new location along the front sidewalk was no longer practical due to the new ADA requirements of the updated sidewalk. Our intent was to place them in areas where they could be enjoyed but not stepped on, but the board of trustees looked at every feasible option and were unable to find a suitable place that was also safe for patrons. There is a new plan in place to replace the memorial tile display with an alternate display within the vestibule of the library. We hope to unveil this new piece of art soon.
Until then, the memorial tiles are stored safely on pallets and are being sorted so we can retrieve them for any of the donors who would like their tile back. To be notified of the availability of your donated tiles, please fill out this online form. We plan to go through the tiles on a monthly basis.
