Fremont Public Library FAQ's

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions and did you know facts at the library:

Why do I have to have my library card with me to check out materials?
  • To protect you from fraud and invasion of privacy
  • To make check-out as quick and efficient as possible
  • To protect the integrity of the collection

If you do not have your library card with you, the library will be happy to hold your selections at the pick-up desk for you.

I was a patron at the Fremont Public Library before you moved. Is my card still valid?
Yes.

Does the library have a public FAX machine?

Yes.
For a fax to another number within the local area, the charges are $1.00 (one dollar) for the first page, and $.50 (fifty cents) for every subsequent page. There are additional charges for sending a fax outside of the Chicago area; for details contact the Public Services Desk at 847 918-3225
You may also have faxes sent to the library. This will entail the same cost as sending a fax ($1.00 for the first page, $.50 for every subsequent page). Please ask the person sending the fax to address it clearly for you.
Do you have computers for the public?

Yes. Here is our Wireless and Internet Policy.

General Provisions:

The Fremont Public Library District offers Internet access to library patrons via library computers and a wireless network.  The library cannot be held responsible for the content.  Library users access the Internet at their own discretion and risk.

The Internet contains material that may be inappropriate for viewing in a public setting; users are expected to be sensitive to that fact and act responsibly and with respect for others. If a displayed image or text results in a public disturbance, library staff reserve the right to end the Internet session. (See Patron Behavior Policy.)

Any unlawful use of the Internet, including but not limited to laws concerning copyright, fraud, hate crime, privacy or obscenity, is strictly prohibited. Patrons who have been identified as making unlawful use of the Internet will be banned from using the library's Internet resources and subject to legal action. All patrons wishing to use the library's Internet service need to be aware that law enforcement bodies can request Internet transaction records with a proper court order.

Any tampering with the library’s computer equipment or systems is prohibited.

Children’s Access to the Internet:

Internet computers located in the Youth Services Department are equipped with filtering software. Please note Internet filters are imperfect and that the library cannot assume responsibility for the content found on the Internet even in a filtered environment. Parents are responsible for the actions of their children and are encouraged (or required) to participate with them in their Internet use.

Children ages seven and under are subject to the library’s “Unsupervised Minor Policy” and are not permitted to use the Internet without their parent or legal guardian present during their entire computer session. Children ages eight to 16 must either use the computers in the Youth Services Department or have a parent or legal guardian accompany them while they use the computers in Adult Services.

Wireless Access to the Internet

The Fremont Public Library District provides wireless access for public Internet use.  All patrons utilizing our wireless system should act in accordance with the Fremont Public Library Internet and Patron Behavior policies.

  • Wireless users are responsible for configuring the wireless equipment connecting to the wireless network.
  • Wireless users are responsible for the security of their own equipment.
  • FPLD does not provide software or hardware support
  • Wireless users are subject to all of the provisions as listed above.
