While Moochie and Louie were on spring break at the Jelly Belly factory, we asked our young patrons to guess how many jelly beans were in a gumball dispenser. We're happy to announce that our 9-year-old patron, Lauren, is the winner in the jelly belly contest!  She guessed 800 jelly beans and there were actually 812. Way to go Lauren!

Curious about your kitty? Diggin' your dog? Fascinated with the farm? Come grab some curiosity fulfilling books about the farm and your pets. These books are perfect ways to solve questions and ignite a craving in your young child for more information about the world they see. In this section, you can find excellent books with general information on breeds or animals or you can follow a story about a specific pet or farm.

A 2011 Monarch Award Honor book, Two Bobbies celebrates the enduring friendship between a dog and a cat. It's always delightful to hear a story of two unusual animal friends, and this friendship is just that--cute and touching. A great factual book to pair with discussions on Hurricane Katrina. Non-fiction material and informational texts have been getting a lot of attention with the inception of the Common Core, a set of state-led educational standards being adopted across the country. The praise is well-deserved because non-fiction opens up worlds of curiosity for children. Not only can nonfiction be used to investigate subjects that kids are learning in school, it can also be used to inspire, explore, and awe. Fremont Public Library has excellent non-fiction options for your child. This post will be the first in the "Non-Fiction Finder" series highlighting what Fremont Public Library has for your children.

Ocean life for the youngest explorers

Paleosharks: Survival of the Strangest by Timothy J. Bradley. Today's sharks are a fearsome bunch, and their predecessors were just as nasty. Explore truly unique sharks that lived over 400 million years ago, with comparisons to sharks living today. Fun fact: the Helicoprion has fossil evidence that suggests the shark's teeth were shaped is a compact spiral that looked like a 10-inch buzz-saw blade. That's intense!

Thanks to our amazing families that participated in the fall family reading club! We had a total of 304 ice cream scoops posted on our wall. We made it to the top! Great job, everyone! Check out the wall:

In celebration of our great success, Fremont Public Library held an ice cream social. Families settled into a fun afternoon of board games, ice cream, and valuable family time together. Big thanks goes out to Maggie Moo's for providing the ice cream. See our Facebook for more photos.

Rev up your reading engines! During the month of November Fremont Public Library hosts our family reading club "Reading Is Sooo Delicious!". For every book you read together or your child reads individually you can contribute to building our ice cream cone. For each book, write your last name (and the book title if you like) on an ice cream scoop which are available at the youth services desk. Put the ice cream scoop in the tin at the desk and we will put them up periodically.

Watch the ice cream cone get taller and taller as you read more and more! Come start today!
